Sunny Brunch

In the hustle of daily living we sometimes get so busy we really are living in 'rote-zone'; do the next thing, get the lists checked off, keep up with the sqweeky wheels, pay attention, be mindful, and remember to come up for air.  As an adult a 'time-out' is a good thing, a needed thing.  The Lord put it on my heart to have a brunch with some well deserving moms.

Wear something pink or red beings that its February and all...not to mention my signature color!
Right here is a picture of a true servant's heart.  I have never met anyone like my Sandra who serve's with a joyful spirit always, always pitching in to help in anyway!  Mark 10:45 and Phil 1:4-Love you girl!
Chocolate covered strawberries, cream of mushroom soup, lemon cake, fresh fruit, and muffins.

I gathered all my tea cups and linens that only appear for treats like these.  It was delightful preparing for this morning!

This was one way I hadn't thought of for using linen napkins.
Triple cream brie with cherry honey served on a deserving french baguette, thank you Wegman's!  Each lady hunted for a love note from God that was placed around the room with a scripture verse that was meant for her.  One gal even took the instruction heart home because she didn't know the verse, so sweet.
*GET YOUR PINK ON!*

I read a little devotional and prayed for everyone.  It was a truly lovely morning!

Mother's Day

The weather blessed us all today.  We were able to have a delicious cook-out and play outside.  My kiddos each made me a card and had little coupons tucked inside for dinners, helping, and back-rubs.
My sweet mama and daddy.  We played a rousing card game of golf.

I joined the boyz for some bocce ball.  I am NOT a competitive person, in fact, I don't like playing with competitive people.  I did not intend to win, I simply threw the ball and it just so happened to land exactly where the winning points were.  Tee hee, that made my papa happy since he was my partner.

Me and my best girl!
I love boyz who play in the dirt.  They are suppose to in fact, I am pretty sure I read that in the Bible somewhere.  This master mind was digging a trench for the pool water to run through when it splashes over...he is planning ahead (and asking daily to open the pool).

The hardest  part about being a mother...is thinking about the day my chick-a-dees will fly the coop.  This is all I know how to do, my life exists around caring for my family.  So for now I soak in the moments we have and all together avoid thinking about empty nests!

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.  Psalm 127:3

Hello Monday

I never used to like Monday's.  Hubby goes to work and part of my heart goes with him.  As well as the house is usually in some disarray and I feel a bit overwhelmed at what to tackle first.  Over the years I have learned to settle into a routine that guides my day and keeps me in a rhythm.  After I finish devotions with my favorite girl and get her rolling with school work, I bake something in the morning.  I draw on the sweet memory of my grandmother who always did her baking in the morning.  Today I made Chocolate Chip Applesauce Cake.

Dinner is prepped in the crock pot so when we get home from soccer today beef stew is waiting (recipes to follow).

I dive into the laundry and release all the gross things from the weekend that got shoved in the hamper.

I like to catch up on my blog and journal the past few days of our lives and share what the Lord is teaching me.

And as a bonus, to celebrate the 80 degree temperature I painted my piggie toes after a long winter's nap!

Thank you Lord for the gift of homemaking that you have bestowed upon me!  I love being a wife and mother!

My Douglas picked this beautiful spring flower and it's fragrance fills the room.

Proverbs 24:3-4 (NKJ)

3 Through wisdom a house is built,
      And by understanding it is established;
4 By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
Blessings,
E.W.

Boys Who Read

I recently read an article in the Wall Street Journal by Thomas Spence titled, How to Raise Boys Who Read. I am encouraged to read something in the newspaper that is on target with classical education.  He wrote:

"Plato before him," writes C. S. Lewis, "had said the same. The little human animal will not at first have the right responses. It must be trained to feel pleasure, liking, disgust, and hatred at those things which really are pleasant, likeable, disgusting, and hateful."

The secret to raising boys who read, I submit, is pretty simple—keep electronic media, especially video games and recreational Internet, under control (that is to say, almost completely absent). Then fill your shelves with good books."

It goes along with the hard work of parenting.  The other day my youngest was complaining about listening to classical music.  "WHY DO WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS?" My eloquent, early-morning response was, 'because it is beautiful, because it cultivates your taste for things that are beautiful, and because I like it!   There's more...we are going to the symphony to hear Beethoven."  "WHY?  I don't want to go," said child replies.  I can neither confirm nor deny that one or both of us had flared nostrils and a raised eyebrow (okay the eyebrow was certainly me).  "Son, you are going and you are going to put on a happy face and not another gloomy comment!"   I am happy to report that said son survived the show and left with a smile on his face.  Baby steps, it's all I am sayin!

Train up a child in the way he should go...Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely...think of such things.

My boys won't grab a book as their first choice during free time but they will if one is placed gently in their hands and they are encouraged to give it a whirl.  Most times out of ten they are glad they engaged in the written word.  Same goes with music, art, and food, yes try a bite, just a bite.  Baby steps, we all need them to propel ourselves on the journey.

Faithfully Yours,
E.W.

Boyz Adventures

I found this group of pictures from last November of my youngest and his best bud.  They were born 1 day apart and have been thick as thieves ever since.

Having lunch on top of the roof shed, scaring off monsters and feeling like King of the Hill!

These guys have gone on vacation together, had birthday parties together, they are on the same soccer team, and the laugh and laugh and laugh when they are together!  One birthday party was a 'Warrior Party.'  We centered it around the idea that they are in God's Army and they are warrior's for Him.  They made TeePee's and wore face paint and feathered head dresses.
Isaiah 13:4 NIV
Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The LORD Almighty is mustering an army for war.

This hammock sits high in the trees for boyz play and adventure.
I pray their friendship will endure and strengthen as they journey together serving our great God!  I pray they will sharpen each other and be an encouragement to one another.  Proverbs 27:17 NIV
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.  They have been given a sweet gift of friendship and the treasure of growing up together, just think what memories they will collect over the years!

Coram Deo,
E.W.

Say Night-Night

One day he won't want me to tuck him in anymore.  But for right now he still does, and I am so very glad that he does.  He is my third child, the last one to still linger over tuck-in-bed-conversation.  We have a ritual.  Just he and I.  It never changes order.  It follows a nightly pattern of love and security.

KISS

HUG

HOLD YOUR TWO HANDS

SNUGGLE

NOSE-EEz

KISSY BIRD

 TWIDDLEY FINGERS

 WIGGLEY FINGERS

THUMB WAR

BUTTERFLY KISSES

HAIR-EEz

TICKLES
This is the part when I invariably get a knee to the chest or bopped in the chin!

BELLY RUB
This is when a song is requested, usually Froggy Went a Courtin.  Other times I'll sing Day by Day or I Love You Lord or a surprise pick of the night.

PRAY

May  your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice!  Proverbs 23:25

I love you Gabriel!
What does your kiddos night time tuck-in look like?

Blessed,
E.W.
