Dry Bones

Ezekiel led an unusual life.  He was a prophet of God and was asked to do some really hard things.  One day he was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with human bones (GROSS!).  God led him around among the old, dry bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground. God said to Ez, "Speak to these bones and say, 'Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord!  This is what the Sovereign Lord says:  Look!  I am going to breathe into you and make you live again!...I will put breath into you, and you will come to life."
Sara Groves sings a song about another Old Testament prophet Jeremiah.
From the 20th chapter of Jeremiah it says, "His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones: I was weary of holding it back, and I could not."
What's with these old guys and bones?  Do you feel all dried up, undernourished in your soul, lacking power and life?  Then listen to the word of the Lord, that is the key!  God's word breathes life into our lives making us free and alive.  I want God to breath on me!  (I wonder what His breath smells like, something fragrant no doubt!)  James 1:25 says, "if you keep looking steadily into God's perfect law-the law that sets you free-and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it."      SIGN ME UP!
Passivity keeps you from reaching for the good book.  Ambition and desire hold you back from the truth God wants to reveal to you.  We need to get serious and detonate that fire that burns us up that is not in alignment with God's truth and promises.  Everything else is distracting and noisy in order to keep us from living in our God-given gift set.  Have you ever read  the book by C.S. Lewis titled Screwtape Letters?  We had an opportunity to see the play last winter at the Shakespearean Theatre in D.C.  A senior demon appoints his minion, Wormwood, to distract and discourage his chosen human on earth.  He makes every attempt to keep the person focused on worldly things or worse-self.  Look over here at this sparkly thing-a-ma-bob not at the child calling your name.  This method of living is sure to dry up your bones!  We run on empty and wonder how we find ourselves completely undone.

God's word is lifegiving.  He can revitalize and rejuvenate you.  The key is to make the time to read the Word and apply it to your life.  So what can you rearrange to make that happen?  What needs to go in your schedule that is sucking the life out of you?  How would you like things to be in your life, take the necessary steps to reach that goal!
Let me know how I can pray for you in these areas.
Blessings,
E.W.
